Hurdle cleared for Thiruvananthapuram Airport privatisation

Adani group gets a breather for acquisition of Thiruvanatapuram Airport on long term lease basis, when the division bench of Kerala high court dismissed the petition filed by the Keral government against the AAI decision to give the airport on long term operational lease basis to Adani group.

Airport Authority of India invited bids for the operation, management and development of 6 of its airports, including Thiruvananthapuram on a long term lease contract basis, in February 2019. interestingly all the six airports were won by Ahmedabad based Adani group by offering higher passenger Fee Revenue to Airport Authority.

Government of Kerala through its wholly owned subsidiary also bid for the contract but lost out to Adani group on lower Passenger Revenue offering. subsequently Kerala government moved High court for cancellation of the bid to Adani and offering to operate the airport itself through KSIDC.

But the court struck down its plea, saying the matter is not maintainable as the Airport is yet to be handed over to the winning bidder.

Adani group may get all the airports in the next financial year, once the AAI completes its audit and books of account.
